Avoca X New Zealand Ski Team

Avoca is a proud sponsor of the New Zealand Ski Team. The national team wears Avoca Active Merino gear, and has been wear-testing and loving our garments for 2 years now. We caught up with Coach Nils Coberger to see how the team was going, as they dig into their winter season in New Zealand.

The New Zealand Ski Team are enjoying their winter at home. Proudly returning to the Southern Hemisphere with impressive placings and wins behind them, they have worked very hard around the clock. The 2015 World Championships in Vail and Beaver Creek, Colorado, was a highlight, with coach Nils Coberger commenting that it was “an amazing event to be part of and certainly a valuable experience for the whole team”.

After enjoying a well-deserved break, albeit a short-lived summer, the team was hitting the gym hard from May to prepare for the now-arrived winter. Coronet Peak is their training ground this season, and come August, those same slopes will transform into the playing field for the Audi Winter Games, and National Championships. The team will also compete in the ANC cup in Australia.

Chasing the winter all around the globe is tough job, not to mention a cold one. To keep the team warm and healthy while they train and compete in sub-zero temperatures, they need garments that will weather the long days and hard yards with them. The team wear our New Zealand made, high-quality Merino wool garments from our Avoca Active range. Our gear has the skiers covered from top to toe. Coach Coberger has worn Avoca products for eight years, and it is the New Zealand Ski Team’s second year in the all-natural, all-weather merino gear. It’s the easy, no-fuss and favourable choice of the athletes, as the garments are durable, hold their shape, are easy to wash and odour free. The team is proud to wear Avoca, not only for it’s performance, but design. It gets the coach’s stamp of approval, the “garments are awesome, they look great and fit really well”.

Now that the team is looking great and feeling great, they will be sure to perform and have a winning season. Best of luck guys!
